Breeding
The truth and things you should consider before you breed.
Nearly all buyers come to me in hope and anticipation of wanting to breed, they see the cute kittens and believe me they really are cute, but breeding is a lot of work , consider you need to allow about $1000.00 a year for each adult to cover feeding, kitty litter, vet care and housing .
So if you want to breed , you need two adults to start with , and you need about $2000.00 to keep them .
You need about $4000.00 to start up realistically speaking .
At least one hour each day needs to be put aside just to feed and clean kitty trays bowls etc – do you have a spare hour each day ? This has to be done , they can’t do it themselves .
Do you have a supportive vet?
Vet fees must be considered if you are going to have kittens , you must have your kittens vet checked and immunized if you want to sell them .
Are you able to take care of the mother and the kittens . Make sure the mother is happy and healthy and pay any additional vet fees if mum can’t give birth , or is over due or something goes wrong?
Do you have the patience to toilet train your kittens and allow for little accidents and messes?
Consider that kittens need very good nutritional food – it’s costly , good food means healthy kittens there are no short cuts !
You go through heaps of kitty litter when the kittens are training , they do make a mess as they are learning , I constantly sweep and change their trays several times a day.
After your kittens are vet checked and immunized your work is done, but then you have to prepare for the advertising , consider the costs involved, then you have to prepare for lots of visitors and customers to view the kittens.
Realistically not a great deal of money can be made from breeding. IF YOU WANT TO BREED JUST FOR MONEY YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED . You will only make pocket money , and probably enough to cover costs .
If your cat is not desexed and not a pet, the boys will spray and the girls will call! Other things to think about is who will look after them if you go away, do you have a reliable baby sitter for your cats?

If you think you can do all this , go for it and I wish you well , I have just written this for those who don’t know what is involved in breeding . Often the buyer arrives and sees a basket of cute kittens and do not realize what is involved to produce this basket of cute kittens .
It is rewarding and fun too , but you have to commit , and don’t expect to make a lot of money .
Sometimes you can get lucky and have a completely good and problem free litter of kittens and the kittens may sell quickly , but this is not always .
I have only mentioned this for those who do not understand what is involved in breeding cats , ragdolls are quite easy going with not many emotional hang ups , really they are pretty good laid back , lazy cats . If you want to breed please ask I will assist you in FCCV registration .
Please become a responsible registered breeder . Being part of governing body has it’s benefits . It means that you are selling pedigree cats , it means you are acting under guide lines and you will earn respect . It is not complicated .
It means you will be able to obtain help and knowledge .
If you want to become a breeder I am happy to be there for you , please do not ask me for breeding kittens if you do not intend to register as breeder .
